Typically I would write an essay a week, in fact it’s been the standard for the last two years. However, life isn’t always so kind, so today I’m offering something different. A few weeks ago I mentioned that InThirdPerson had just crossed 100 published essays. In honour of this achievement, we’re going to take a little trip down memory lane. But!
Instead of me giving you something to read, I’m going to give you a chance to pick whatever you’re in the mood for. As I have a catalogue of already published material, I’ve dug up some of my favourite work to offer you today.
I’ve provided a variety of topics, as I know you’re a diverse bunch with varying interests. And while I can’t be there for you this week (with a fresh essay hot off the press), much of my already published work is just as good as anything I could write today.
Even though I don’t have the time and energy to write this week, I’ve made sure that there’s still something here for you. This is your opportunity to choose your own InThirdPerson adventure.
What will you choose?
Art and the Transitory Nature of Love
Art and creativity, an essential part of daily life. And while not common enough of a statement, the truth is that human creativity is always around. Billboards to radio, pamphlets and beyond, someone somewhere is out there making something so you can look at it and go “cool.”
What Does It Mean to Be Successful?
Success is an elusive thing, contrary to what pop culture might have us believe. What does success actually look like? Is success really just a big house and a nice car? Maybe. The tricky thing about this answer is that most people would take the big house and the nice car if it were offered. But does that really make it a good standard for success?
Fantasising About Consumerism
It’s stimulating to walk the seemingly kilometre long hallways of my local mega shopping centres staring at all the perfectly curated or equally ravished shelves offering me anything and everything I could want. I suppose I feel as if I’m in an art gallery at times, looking at all the artwork on display. Yet no, these artworks are made to be sold. I can’t help but be amazed by the perfectly clean floors and variety of lights either setting the mood or effectively illuminating potential purchases.
Could Introversion Be a Trauma Response?
I’m proposing that introversion, and equally so extroversion, can be but not always is, a product of trauma. That you as the individual have not only the power to change your character to adapt to your environment, but to also lie to yourself about who you truly are. That you have the ability to deceive yourself into thinking you’re someone you’re not, because you believe that it serves the purpose of protecting you, threats legitimate or not.
The 3 Paths to Friendship
If you stop and think about it, friendship is a funny thing. One day you bump into a stranger and before you know it, you know everything about them: where they live, their favourite food, their flaws, and even the things you probably wish you didn’t know. There is no friendship playbook as far as I understand, it’s a gamble two individuals make on the assumption that the other isn’t a complete psycho.
Crisis: The Teller of Truths
The inclusion of the word “crisis” in the title was no mistake. Because the idea of a crisis being a point of personal discovery, and potentially even a space for the rearrangement of values, is the theme for this writing. What I’ll be sharing today comes in the form of a personal crisis of mine: a period of sickness.
